Welcome to Cricket Analyst: how we settle cricket arguments with data
Cricket fans argue about the same questions for decades: who was the greatest batter, which team was the best, whether one era was tougher than another. This site exists to put numbers behind those arguments and to show the working, so you can agree or disagree with the method and not just the verdict.
What you will find here
- Research articles with the data, the method and the conclusion.
- Video breakdowns on the Cricket Analyst YouTube channel, with the charts and the debate.
- A newsletter that sends new research when it is published.
How to read an analysis
Every article states three things up front:
- The question, for example "Who was the best opener of the 1970s?"
- The method, including how eras are adjusted and what counts as enough matches to rank a player.
- The caveats, because every ranking depends on choices, and we say which ones we made.
Where the numbers come from
The statistics come from public cricket records, mainly ESPNcricinfo. The analysis and conclusions are our own. We publish our results and charts, not the source site's raw tables. Details are on the data sources page.
